Course overview
JTL has launched a new apprenticeship in fire, emergency and security systems that leads to a recognised Level 3 NVQ qualification. The course will be delivered in two locations – The Midlands and Essex.
The Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Apprenticeship will provide apprentices with a clear pathway towards becoming a fully qualified technician, engineer or installer of alarm, fire, emergency and security systems.

Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Training Course
This Level 3 apprenticeship provides a choice of pathways, a core module and an end point assessment (EPA). There is also an opportunity to transfer Level 2 City and Guilds Electronic Security and Emergency Systems (1853) and Providing Electronic Security and Emergency Systems (2882) to this new apprenticeship.
Entry requirements will be determined by the employer. Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their apprenticeship.
This apprenticeship is currently available in the Midlands and London regions. The typical completion time is 36 months.

Pathway options
Learners can choose a specific pathway in one of the following four options to suit their individual careers:
Fire – the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of fire detection, alarm and other emergency systems.
Security – the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of intruder and holdup alarms, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and other electronic security systems.
Fire and emergency lighting – the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of fire detection and alarm, emergency light systems and other emergency systems.
Fire and security – the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of fire detection, alarm and other emergency systems, intruder and holdup alarms, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and other electronic security systems.
Delivery and Assessment
The course is delivered via day release over an academic calendar year at a JTL training centre or college partner near you however, some regions may offer block release. Your dedicated JTL Training Officer will be able to advise you.
Each apprentice will be allocated a dedicated Training Office to monitor and assess their learning progress throughout their apprenticeship.

In just three years an apprentice can achieve an industry recognised qualification, giving them the opportunity to pursue an exciting career. An occupation as a technician in this field typically involves the following responsibilities:
- Designing, installing, commissioning and maintaining electronic systems within and outside premises to protect individuals, homes and properties from risk and danger.
- Working with fire, security and emergency systems to detect intrusion, provide surveillance, monitor and control access to buildings and detect fire and emergencies.
- Interconnecting equipment, programming, verifying performance and fault finding, testing and maintaining.
- Responding to call-outs to repair faulty systems by using problem solving skills.
