Take on a Trainee

If you are looking for an effective way to recruit, train and grow your workforce, then a JTL traineeship is an ideal approach to finding and retaining enthusiastic new employees.

Introduction to Traineeships

A traineeship is a course that takes place pre-apprenticeship and is usually a 10-16-week programme that aims to give learners an insight into industry. Although aimed at building services, JTL’s traineeship programme provides experience and skills to help young people aged 16-18 prepare and apply for any type of work.

A traineeship is an effective way to demonstrate your company’s commitment to improving the competency and quality of the talent within the trades. By giving young people their first opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the workplace, they’ll be better equipped to begin a targeted apprenticeship programme that will lead to a professional career.

Structured work experience

As part of the Traineeship programme trainees must complete a work experience placement.  If you can offer this as a business, then usually a mentor within your business is identified who will coach the trainee and provide constructive feedback. This is a great development experience and opportunity for your existing workforce.

No business costs

Taking on a trainee means no financial outlay for your business yet offers enormous potential. Training costs for traineeships are met by Government funding and employers are not required to pay the trainee during the work experience process. JTL pays up to £25 per week to the young person on the traineeship to support with any travel costs which they may incur. We also provide basic personal protective equipment at no additional cost.

No obligation

At the end of the traineeship there is no obligation to offer a position or an apprenticeship to the trainee. When leaving your company, the trainee will receive an exit interview from JTL and you, which provides useful feedback for the trainee, your business and JTL about the work experience. A reference will also be required from you the employer for the benefit of the trainee.

Work preparation support

To help them prepare for the world of work, trainees receive work preparation training, including CV writing, interview preparation, interpersonal skills and local business and sector information, which is all provided by JTL. Trainees are also made aware of health and safety regulations in order to meet the requirements to gain site access. Following on from work experience trainees are given the opportunity to gain a CSCS general operatives card which JTL will fund.
